Smoke Detector Testing
There are now two products within the Solo range that allow functional testing of smoke detectors – both of which are approved by leading detector manufacturers:
Solo 365 Smoke Detector Tester
This new method of smoke generation takes the Solo brand to the next level. Solo 365 generates smoke on-demand via non-pressurised smoke cartridges – it’s lighter to use, quicker to test and suitable for more applications.
- On-demand smoke – faster testing, less wastage, eliminates risk of contamination
- 15% lighter than Solo 330 – supports easy movement around site
- Slim-line design – allows easy access to hard-to-access detectors
- Auto LED torch – for simple testing in dark environments
- Clearing mode – prevents re-alarms
- Non-pressurised cartridge – easy storage & transportation
- Detector manufacturer approved
Solo ES3 Smoke Cartridge
Inserted in the Solo 365 tester, a Solo ES3 smoke cartridge will produce a detector-friendly smoke compatible with the widest range of detectors.
- Detector manufacturer approved
- Non-flammable, non-pressurised & non-hazardous
- Rapid activation of detectors
- Compact design
Solo 330 Aerosol Smoke Dispenser
Fundamental to functional smoke checking for many professionals around the world the Solo 330 contains the test aerosol and ensures that it is applied correctly and contained only where required. Used with the access poles it enables safe testing at heights but is equally valued at low level.
- Lightweight and simple to use
- Universal design suits widest range of detectors (up to 100mm / 4″ in diameter)
- Spring-loaded solution for suspended ceilings
- Transparent test cup for clear view of detector LED
- Swing frame for use at / from angles
- Detector manufacturer approved
- Solo 332 suitable for detectors up to 177mm / 7″ in diameter
Solo Smoke Aerosols
Approved all over the world, our Solo smoke aerosols (used with the Solo 330/332 dispensers) deliver smoke particles to the detector under test replicating the conditions of smoke from a fire. Our range of smoke aerosols has recently increased to allow continued use of our Solo 330/332 dispensers in full compliance with latest regulations.
All Solo smoke aerosols are:
- Detector manufacturer approved
- Designed for use with the Solo 330/332 dispensers
- Non-toxic
- Silicone free
Solo A5 (Flammable) Smoke Detector Tester – UL & ULC Listed
Solo A10 (Non-flammable, HFC-Free) Smoke Detector Tester
Heat Detector Testing
Functional checking of heat detectors, with a genuine heat source, is now required by major national standards around the world. Testing with heat sources not designed for the purpose can be both dangerous and damaging. The Solo range of heat detector testing equipment, designed specifically for the purpose, provides a genuine professional’s solution.
Solo 461 Cordless Heat Detector Tester (battery powered)
Using the unique IR activation and Cross Air Technology, the Solo 460 heat generation process takes place only when the detector under test is within the cup with hot air blown horizontally in a focussed beam directly toward the sensor for optimum energy use and results. Interchangeable NiMH battery batons and a fast battery recharger enable testing all day with a cable free professional device.
- Detector manufacturer endorsed
- No cables, trailing leads or hanging wires
- Battery powered (Kits include 1 or 2 higher capacity (3000mAh) Battery Batons, and UL-listed fast charger with mains and in-vehicle power leads)
- Suits fixed temperature, rate-of-rise and combination detectors up to 194°F / 90°C
- Lightweight and simple to use
- Universal design suits widest range of detectors
- Transparent test cup for clear view of detector LED
- Designed for use at height, angles or low level
Solo kits are being updated to use the NEW higher-capacity battery batons (Solo770) to give longer, un-interrupted testing which increases on-site productivity. The fast charger has also been updated (Solo727) and continues to fully charge a Solo770 battery baton in 60 to 90 minutes (when completely discharged).
CO Detector Testing
Many multi-sensor fire detectors detect carbon monoxide (CO) as well as smoke and / or heat. Under international codes and standards the CO cell needs to be functionally tested with a CO stimulus from the protected area through the detector vents to the sensor.
Solo C3 – used in conjunction with Solo 330 / 332 dispensers – provides a safe way of achieving this with CO concentration levels high enough to activate an alarm, but low enough not to pose danger to user health.
Solo C3 Carbon Monoxide Detector Tester *
- Detector manufacturer endorsed
- Genuine and non-flammable CO stimulus
- Controlled delivery
- Designed for use with Solo 330 / 332 dispensers
* Note: certain CO life safety detectors (as opposed to fire detectors with CO sensors within them) require a low concentration of CO sustained over a long period of time. Solo C3 and Solo 330 / 332 are unlikely in isolation to prove suitable for testing these detectors.
Detector Removal
Detectors need removal and replacement for various reasons. The vast majority are fitted on bayonet mountings and the task can be done using specialist tools fitted to appropriate access poles. Using such specialist devices saves the time, cost, disruption and risk to safety that ladders, scaffolding or access gear represents.
Solo C3 – used in conjunction with Solo 330 / 332 dispensers – provides a safe way of achieving this with CO concentration levels high enough to activate an alarm, but low enough not to pose danger to user health.
Solo 200 Detector Removal Tool
Faced with a vast array of different models shapes and sizes the professional needs a universal tool. Compatible with an astonishingly wide range of detectors, the colour-coded heads of the Solo 200 rotate to provide a combination of sizes and settings for just about every detector.
- Universal design suits widest range of detectors
- Suitable for use at / from angles
- Outstanding quality backed by lifetime warranty*
Dedicated detector devices
The Solo 200 can’t please all the detectors all of the time and certain detectors require specialist devices (either because of their unique form factors or because of inherent locks). A wide range of these have been developed (some available only through the detector manufacturer themselves) and more are designed as required.
Access Poles
Access poles are required for detectors out of normal reach. Their use saves the time, cost, disruption and risk to safety that ladders, scaffolding or access gear represents.
The value of these access poles over ‘other poles’ is not just the quality of their design and manufacture. It becomes evident when they are required on a daily basis and / or are used at great heights. Pull-wound glass fibre construction provides non conductivity with an optimum strength to weight ratio and high tolerance manufacture ensures minimum possible whip or bend at height relative to weight and cost. This, coupled with the simple locking mechanism of the telescopic sections means that these access poles combine ease of use with design and manufacturing excellence.
Solo100/101/108 Telescopic Access Poles
Faced with a vast array of different models shapes and sizes the professional needs a universal tool. Compatible with an astonishingly wide range of detectors, the colour-coded heads of the Solo 200 rotate to provide a combination of sizes and settings for just about every detector.
- Optimum strength to weight ratio
- Minimum possible whip or bend at height
- Designed certified non-conductive
- Available in one, two or four telescopic sections
- Simple locking mechanism and easy to use
- Outstanding quality backed by lifetime warranty*
Detector Testing Kits
Solo testers are available either as separate components or as complete kits – configured both by height and application. The price of complete kits is usually less than the sum of the component parts.
Kits are available with 1 or 2 3000mAh Battery Batons. The new battery batons (Solo770) and charger (Solo727) are also available separately to replace ageing batteries (Solo720 or Solo760) whose performance has deteriorated.
A wide range of Solo test kits are available, see our Solo Product Range Selector to find the right kit for you.
Please note: From 2nd January 2018 any Solo Kit which previously included Solo A3 will change to include Solo A10.
